Dengue has been a worldwide problem sense the 1940's. Affecting an average of 50-100 million people a year.Dengue fever is also known as the "break-bone" because of the pain that it causes to the muscles and joint. this fever is an acute disease cause by the dengue virus. Dengue fever is transmitted by the Mosquito aedes aegupti.
If some one acquire this virus it could take up to 14 days for the onset of symptoms to appear. However, it is more often for the symptoms to appear between four to seven days. The symptoms can include headache, a characteristic skin rash may appear, nausea and vomiting and, muscle and joint pain. The diagnosis is made clinically, and by a physical examination. The warning signs that are look into diagnosing dengue fever includes abdominal pain, ongoing vomiting, liver enlargement, mucosal bleeding, high hematocrit with low platelets, and if the person is lethargic.
This Virus has three phases:
1. The Febrile stage: involves high fever over 40 oC, there is pain in the muscles and joints and headache is present. This stage last 2-7 days.
2.The Critical stage: There may be fluid accumulation in the chest and abdomen cavity. This stage can last up to 1-2 days.
3. The recovery stage: On this stage the body reabsorbed the fluids into the bloodstream. This stage last up to 2-3 days.
Most people recover from dengue fever without any ongoing problems. The mortality rate is 1-5% without treatment. and less than 1% with treatment
